Tall and Proud!

In my last post, I was feeling a little down about not quite fitting in to any category that people recognize.  However, I'm at school today, and I realized how much I love being a long-legged Dachshund!

Here's a picture of me and my friends that they keep in the lobby of my school.  I'm on the far right.  See how tall I am!

Watching over the littlesIt's nice to have all of the other littles look up to me.  I can help them reach treats and toys that are in high places, so they think I'm cool and awesome!

Plus, look at my sweet moves that I can only do because I'm fast, long, and tall!

My best move is from 0:10-0:11.  You won't believe it!

Thanks to all my friends at Taurus for making me feel so much better!

What Am I?

When the Buda Wiener Dog Races wouldn't let me run, it got me thinking...

People seem obsessed with labels.  They're always asking what I am.

People usually point and smile and yell, "Wiener dog," or say, "I love dachshunds."  (Sometimes, they even say, "I love Datsuns," whatever that means.)  However, after that, they always say, "What else is he?"

What do they mean?  What am I?

I know what I am.  I'm obviously a small, fast, playful, brown puppy.  Still, people are always asking what I am.

Long-legged DachshundMy people say that I'm a dachshund mixed with an Italian greyhound.  They showed me these pictures.

DachshundItalian GreyhoundMaybe I am a mix, or maybe people are just obsessed with labels.  I have one last thing to say...

I'm a mutt... so what?!

Had a Bad Day :(

Today was a bad, bad day.

This morning I went outside for my morning patrol.  When I came back in, one of my people was missing!  I looked everywhere.  My other person said, "Don't worry," but people don't know when they should worry and when they shouldn't.  Eventually, I figured out that my person went out without telling me.  I was no longer worried, but I was sad.

Then, after my other person said goodbye to me, it started raining.  Raining really, really, really, really hard.  Then, it got dark and all of the regular noises in the house stopped.  Instead, there were really loud noises outside.  I didn't like it one bit!

My day started getting better when one person came home very early.  I was so excited!  The excitement didn't last long.  He said hi to me, gave me a treat, and left again a few minutes later. :-(

Recovering from a bad dayFinally, the day seemed better.  Rain stopped and I went outside.  Yay!  I had fun until I tried to come back in.  My door did not open.  What?!?  It always opens when I want it to.  I tried and tried and tried and tried to open it, but it did not open.

I got scared and started yelling to anyone who could hear me.  I yelled and yelled and yelled.  Nobody could hear me.  I was so worried that I would never get back into the house.

Finally, my person came home earlier than usual.  I was the happiest to see him that I've ever been.  I jumped and jumped and jumped as high as I could so he'd know how happy I was.  He hugged me, played with me, gave me treats, and fixed my door.  I was so glad!

My bad day had a good ending, but now I'm very tired.  I hope not to have this kind of day for a long, long, long time.

Edie the Frog Catcher

My tail is wagging wildly as I introduce my first guest blogger, Edie!  Edie is a medium, brown-black-white, fast, friendly pup.  She recently went above and beyond the call of duty in protecting her people from the menace of frogs.  (Not many people realize what a menace frogs are, but trust me, they are a big, sneaky menace!)

I find Edie's heroics especially amazing since I hate getting wet.  I'll let Edie describe her story in her own words...

Edie is justifiably proud of her heroismHi!  I'm Edie, and I'd like to thank Cody for giving me the opportunity to blog about my recent experience.

The day started like any other day.  I was on my regular border patrol, which is especially important because we live on the border of a forest.  A lot of menaces try to come into our area, but I diligently keep them out.

Suddenly, I saw a frog that had somehow penetrated the border.  Normally, I just grab the frog, but this one was a super-frog!  When I went to grab it, it hopped away, and I ended up with a mouthful of grass.

The frog hopped all the way into the cement pond.  Now I was really worried.  The people cubs swim in that pond, and frogs are even more dangerous in water than on land.  I had to act quickly!

I jumped right in the water and started swimming as hard as I could!  I swam, and swam for what seemed like forever, but I caught up to the frog and caught him!

Once again, the border is secure, and the water and land are safe for the people of my pack.

I'm such a good, good dog!

A Hike!

Today, we did one of my favorite things.  We took a hike!

There are so many great smells on a hike.  It's impossible for me to smell them all.  My people don't seem to really appreciate all of the smells because they keep telling me to keep moving.  People can be pretty strange sometimes.

There were other people who were really strange and scary on the hike.  These people were moving very fast on wheels.  Most people were on 2 wheels, but there was one especially scary person on just one wheel.  He looked like he was out of control!  Luckily, none of these wheel-people hit me, but they always scare me a little.

On alert for danger!

I was surprised at how dry the trail was.  Even the river didn't have any water.  The only water was in a black bag carried by my people.  I was glad they had some water to share with me.  They may act strange at times, but my people always think ahead!

After the hike, my people went to a place that smelled really good!  They call the place "Tacodeli".  I like the smells, but my people always forget to give me food when we go there.  My people eat, but they don't share with me.  I think they're just distracted by all of the good smells, too.

Just out of reach! To make things worse, my people won't even let me reach all of the good food that's on the ground!  *Sigh*

Despite the issues with the food, today was a great, great day with great smells and a lot of activity.  Now, I'll have to rest up for the next great adventure.  I'm pretty tired!
